lindblut asked: Ah man, thanks for posting these dog breed pictures from earlier times. It's always both interessting as well as shocking to see what most breeds have turned into. While I like both the old and the new doberman type(s), I don't like how ridicolously long and exaggerated Borzoi faces did become. I love long and slender faces, but I think exaggerations always come with handicaps (like a weak jaw). Also the crazy long hair on Afghan hounds these days.
Uhh, late reply is late…
But I’m glad you liked them! Yes, it’s quite surprising to see how much the breeds have changed in due time, in both good and bad sense.
I totally agree with you. Still, Borzoi, Afgan Hounds and sighthounds in general have get off rather lightly from the hell of selective breeding. Compared to some more heavily modified breeds, like English Bulldog and Pekingese which can nowadays hardly breathe or give birth to their offspring, they have stayed almost unchangeable.
When it comes to Doberman, I think their appearance through centuries has stayed very good looking, even though they’ve gone through several changes. The first Dobermans were much heavier and Rottweiler-like than I expected :’3 Sadly, modern Dobermans seem to have their fair share of health concerns.
